Two hour group discussion on ways that counselors can ask for and receive the supports they need to be able to best assist their clients. Many counselors can feel that it is not a good career move to ask for support from agencies when they are given projects such as doing home visits.  This discussion covered ways to ask for agency supports so that agencies, counselors, and clients can meet common goals.

September 2nd, 2014: Presentation: Overview of the Evidence for Clinical Practice Effectiveness

Today I presented a three hour discussion on the evidence of clinical practice for the practice graduate class in which I compared practice-based evidence and evidence-based practice. Meta-studies of counseling show that any bona-fide clinical approach to counseling is helpful most of the time regardless of the approach. This means that people who seek counseling, provided that the approach fits with their sensibilities and style, are 80% better off after counseling than those who do not and are experiencing a similar issue.
