
Two hour group training discussion with 14 graduate clinical trainees on how the use of language and terms influences the relationship with the client. Attention must be given to whether the words used with a client creates a close or distant relationship. Often clinical words, if not matched to the client’s way of understanding the problem, can create a poor rapport. Tips and advice was given on how to match clinical language to the client’s theory of change.
